After a series of cryptic promotional photos, Frank Iero announced the music video for “Medicine Square Garden”, the ninth track off his recent album, Barriers.
Fans waited in anticipation for 4/20, their theories flooding social media (ranging from a My Chemical Romance cameo to a band-wide bloodbath), and by noon EST, the YouTube premier chat was a blur of activity. Then, 12:02 PM hit, and madness descended… in the form of a calisthenics class?
Make no mistake— this thing is surreal. In a statement, Iero described the concept of the video as, “[…] a witchy calisthenics workout meets a Robert Palmer alien massacre.” There’s no better way to describe it, really.
American heavy metal band GWAR enters the video at the musical breakdown and wreaks havoc in the most delightfully vicious manner. The visuals go from 0 to 60 in less than a minute: guts and blood splatter the otherwise white background, and Iero dances around like it’s nobody’s business that his bandmates are getting stabbed/mauled to death (before, of course, getting decapitated himself). It’s crazy, it’s weird, and it’s entertaining from start to finish.
